Meta Muse vs Grok Bot, Hermes, ChatGPT & OpenClaw
Four big companies now sell a personal agent (Meta, xAI, OpenAI and, through Claude, Anthropic), and open-source agents such as Hermes and OpenClaw keep improving. Features get copied within weeks, so the lasting differences are form factor, who runs it, which model, and which ecosystem it plugs into.

Who should pick which
- Meta Muse: errands and life admin, heavy Instagram/Facebook/WhatsApp users, Meta-ads sellers, and anyone who wants the most capable free agent. Reviewers call it very fast and unusually proactive.
- Grok Bot: knowledge work split across focused Bots (one per area of responsibility), X-centric workflows, and Cursor users.
- ChatGPT agent: deep technical work on OpenAI's strongest models, plus Codex, voice and image generation in one subscription.
- Hermes or OpenClaw: power users who want to choose the model, run local models, work on their own machines and network, or keep data off big platforms. Use NemoClaw for a sandboxed version.
Many people run more than one. In the hands-on review we summarised, the reviewer kept ChatGPT for technical work, Grok Bot for knowledge work and Hermes for his own machines, and found Muse didn't replace any of them for him. He still recommended it strongly for errand-driven users.
Ideas worth copying into any agent
Muse's best features are patterns you can recreate in a self-hosted agent:
- Activity feed: one timeline of everything the agent did. In Hermes,
hermes sessions listandhermes cron listget you close. - A separate feed for recurring briefs, so scheduled output doesn't clutter your main chat. In Hermes, deliver cron jobs to their own channel.
- A goal flow that asks "what could you do for me?" Ask your agent to interview you with multiple-choice questions, then propose tasks.
- A separate gatekeeper for network and connector actions. This is Muse's Sentinel, and the same idea as NemoClaw's OpenShell policy.
