Can I migrate from ChatGPT to OpenClaw?

ChatGPT now has three experiences. Chat is the familiar conversation. Work is OpenAI's agent for longer, multi-step jobs that end in a finished document, spreadsheet, presentation, report or Site, on web, mobile and desktop. Codex handles software work in the desktop app. Reusable workflows are moving from custom GPTs to plugins, which bundle skills and connected apps. The trade-off hasn't changed: it's the easiest agent to start with, but you're locked to OpenAI's models and infrastructure. If you need model choice, self-hosting or tight cost control at volume, look at OpenClaw or Hermes.

Three changes that break older guides

Agent mode is gone. OpenAI's help center: "ChatGPT agent is no longer available. Use ChatGPT Work for longer, multi-step tasks." See ChatGPT Work.
Custom GPTs are retiring on Dec 11, 2026 (Feb 11, 2027 for Enterprise workspaces with an approved deferral). Personal accounts (Free, Go, Plus, Pro) can no longer create or publish new GPTs. OpenAI recommends migrating to plugins. See Custom GPTs → Plugins.
Sora is discontinued. The Sora web and app experiences closed on April 26, 2026, and the Sora API was scheduled to shut down on September 24, 2026 (OpenAI).
